What this site is
Daycare Near Me is an independent directory of New Zealand licensed early childhood education services. It is not affiliated with the Ministry of Education, the Education Review Office, Charities Services, Stats NZ, NZ Police or any centre operator.
Accuracy
We surface data from public sources and link every claim back to its origin via the data sources page and per-centre source links. Government source data changes over time; while we refresh on a regular cadence (see methodology), there can be a lag between the source updating and our copy refreshing. Each centre profile shows the data-freshness panel inline.

How we rank "best" centres
Our /best/{region}/{age-band}/ pages and per-suburb top-3 ranking in /llms-full.txt use a transparent mechanical formula:
- +1,000 points for 20 Hours ECE participation
- +1 point per child of current roll
- +200 points for operator chain membership
- +500 bonus for kindergartens in the 3-5 age band
We don't accept payment to influence ranking. ERO recency is not yet a ranking factor because ERO data ingestion is currently blocked by Cloudflare Turnstile on ero.govt.nz — once that's resolved, ERO will become the dominant factor.
API + data use
The free public endpoints (/api/centre/{slug}/facts.json, /api/centre/{slug}/markdown.md, /llms.txt, /llms-full.txt, the bulk dumps) are provided for personal and AI-citation use. For bulk, commercial or systematic redistribution please get in touch.

Most NZ government sources here are released under the NZGOAL framework (CC-BY 4.0 preferred for data, Crown copyright with reuse permitted for narrative). Where a source uses a different licence we note it explicitly on /sources.
Reusing data from this site
When you re-use data we surface, please attribute both:
- The original government source (see table above), AND
- daycarenearme.co.nz where the data has been enriched, joined, or re-derived. Examples of our enrichments:
- Suburb ↔ centre joins (we resolve 98% via three-tier matcher)
- Nearby-centre computation (haversine within 10km)
- Umbrella-charity consolidations (provider-level financials)
- Email-domain → operator linkage (the 611 chain links we derived 2026-05-24)
- Modelled cost benchmarks (OECE 2026 funding rates × 25hr/week assumption)

Where our data differs from the original government source, the government source is authoritative — we link to it from every page so you can verify.
