ERO assessed Fitzroy Kindergarten as Not well placed in April 2017. Our analysis of the ERO report identified strengths in children's wellbeing and whānau partnership (both grade A), with curriculum and learning, bicultural practice, health and safety, and leadership and governance all graded B. The service was noted to have effective assessment planning and strong family engagement, though areas for development included reflecting children's cultures more comprehensively in documentation and strengthening monitoring systems.

Butterfly Preschool is an education and care service in Fitzroy with 38 children on roll. Our analysis of the ERO report (December 2022) identified strength in curriculum and learning, with a highly responsive environment that supports critical thinking and independence. Bicultural practice, including te reo Māori and tikanga, was found to be inconsistent and at varying stages of development.

Te Kōhanga Reo o Waiwhakaiho is a kōhanga reo serving 30 children in Fitzroy. Our analysis of the January 2023 ERO report shows strengths in bicultural practice, with te reo Māori embedded throughout the programme and strong cultural leadership. The curriculum is sound and aligned to Te Whāriki, though assessment and evaluation could be strengthened; health and safety policies and practices meet regulatory requirements.
