ERO review
Education Review · 2025-07-17
Not explicitly evaluated in this review.
"Children play in spacious and inviting indoor and outdoor areas. The indoor area in particular is well set up with activity areas that provide children with a wide range of resources to use and play with."
Good physical environment and resources; baby-specific improvements implemented.
"She is empowering parents to take an active role in running the sessions. For example, she leads very purposeful pre-session discussions where the emphasis is on ideas to support learning for individual children and how to provide a safe, well-supervised programme. She encourages parents to contribute their ideas and share their skills and talents in the sessions."
Parents actively engaged in sessions and decision-making; involvement growing.
Not explicitly evaluated in this review.
"All early childhood services are required to promote children's health and safety and to regularly review their compliance with legal requirements."
Legal compliance and assurance documented; safety systems in place.
"Some improvements were made as recommended in the 2012 ERO review, however these were not sustained due to significant family turnover in the playcentre. The team leader is now reintroducing systems for assessment, planning and self review and ensuring there are Māori perspectives within the programme. These initiatives are very new and there needs to be careful planning and monitoring of the centre's annual action plan to ensure these improvements are sustained."
New team leader improving systems; previous improvements not sustained; needs monitoring.

Composite score
How this is computedOne or more dimensions missing from ERO data
Where Grey Valley Playcentre hasn't been graded on a dimension, the composite uses the national average for that dimension as a placeholder. Each affected axis below is flagged est. When a new ERO review lands, the placeholder is replaced and the score may shift.
The composite is a weighted average of six ERO dimensions, each scored 0–100 (A=90, B=70, C=50, D=25). The "(p47)" style suffix shows where the centre sits within its EQI band (peer percentile, when ≥10 comparable centres in band). See methodology for the formula + limits.
