"Teachers share a philosophy about the importance of child-initiated play based on Te Whāriki, the early childhood curriculum. They organise learning resources throughout the centre in thoughtful ways. This allows children opportunities to lead and make decisions about their learning."
Child-initiated play and Te Whāriki implementation evident but scope for deepening.
"Children's wellbeing is central to staff practices and programmes for children. The upgraded outdoor area and resources encourage a variety of physical activity. Healthy food features regularly in programme activities and the well planned menu."
Strong wellbeing practices with positive environment and healthy routines established.
"Teachers and children make good use of photos, text and electronic communications to share learning activities with families. Children's individual learning stories and the daily diary records document how well these activities have extended children's engagement in learning."
Good communication and documentation of learning shared with families regularly.

Composite score
How this is computedOne or more dimensions missing from ERO data
Where BestStart Ascot Avenue hasn't been graded on a dimension, the composite uses the national average for that dimension as a placeholder. Each affected axis below is flagged est. When a new ERO review lands, the placeholder is replaced and the score may shift.
The composite is a weighted average of six ERO dimensions, each scored 0–100 (A=90, B=70, C=50, D=25). The "(p47)" style suffix shows where the centre sits within its EQI band (peer percentile, when ≥10 comparable centres in band). See methodology for the formula + limits.
